Sessions

We are open 5 sessions per week.

Monday to Friday:  09.10 - 12.10

We have a maximum of 26 children per day (35 over the week) with a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children aged under 3, and 1 to 8 aged over 3, excluding parental help.

Fees

Fees are £12.50 per session.  We also operate a snack fund of £15 per child per half term towards the cost of snacks, gardening, cooking activities and paper towels.  Fees are payable in advance, half termly but a flexible payment system can be arranged if necessary.

Funding for 3 year olds is available the term after the child turns 3 and parents are entitled to up to 5 x 3 hour sessions per week.

We prefer children to attend a minimum of 3 session per week as this will enable the children to receive the full benefit of the curriculum and experiences being offered.

Fees need to be paid on the first day of each half term.

The Curriculum

A great deal can be learnt through play and this can provide the basis for future learning as well as imtroducing the children to routines which will ease the transition into school.  St Alphege Pre-School provides child-orientated learning in which the children have a wealth of rich first-hand experiences and can learn through discovery methods.  Children are given maximum opportunity to be autonomous, to choose their activities and make decisions.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standards for learning development and care for children from birth to five.

There are four themes of the EYFS:

A Unique Child
Positive Relationships
Enabling Environments
Learning and Developments

The EYFS is made up of six areas of learning and development.  All these areas are connected to one another and are equally important.

Personal, social and emotional development
Communication, language and literacy
Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
Physical development
Creative development
Knowledge and understanding of the world

Session overview

Each session begins with the children sitting in their Keyworker groups in the book corner for the register and short prayer.

The children then go to their first activity with their Keyworker.  The children are encouraged to make choices from a wide range of activities and there is plenty of adult help to develop social skills and interaction with other children.

Snacktime is organised in Keyworker groups.  We offer a healthy snack with a drink of milk or water.

After snack, the children have a range of fresh activities including physical play.  The children then remain in Keyworker groups and take turns to move from one activity to another.  These include physical play, table top games, "newsround", role play, creative activity and weather permitting, outdoor play.

The session usually ends with nursery rhymes, circle songs, the parachute or musical instruments before it is time to go home.
